Dr Mir is a Consultant General Adult and Perinatal Psychiatrist who has worked in the field of Psychiatry for over 25 years. He specialises in the diagnosis and management of psychiatric disorders of adulthood such as Depression, Generalised Anxiety disorder, Post-Traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), Obsessive-Compulsive disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Bipolar disorder and Schizophrenia.

Alongside this he has expertise in the management of psychiatric disorders of pregnancy and the postpartum period (Perinatal psychiatry). This includes Postnatal depression, Postpartum psychosis and Post-Traumatic stress disorder after childbirth. He offers pre-conceptual counselling to women with mental health problems who may be on medication and are planning a pregnancy.

Dr Mir was Consultant for the Sheffield Perinatal Mental Health service between 2009 and 2021. He currently works part-time as a Consultant for the North Adult Community Mental Health team at Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust. He is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer in Psychiatry at the University of Sheffield.

Dr Mir is on the General Medical Council’s (GMC) Specialist Register, holding Certificates of Completion of Training (CCT) in General Adult and Liaison Psychiatry. He has held various leadership positions in the NHS including Academic Lead for Undergraduate Psychiatry teaching, Named Doctor for Safeguarding Children and Clinical Staff Governor. He has received Clinical Excellence Awards in recognition of his contribution to NHS service development, clinical service delivery, research and teaching. He is an Examiner for the Royal College of Psychiatrists and was elected to the Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (FRCPsych) in 2023.

Dr Mir has been an Expert Witness since 2009, specialising in the psychiatric aspects of clinical negligence, personal injury, family law, occupational stress, data breach, capacity assessment and actions against the police. He has a particular interest in birth trauma. He is on the UK Register of Expert Witnesses and an accredited Clinical Negligence expert for the UK charity, Action against Medical Accidents (AvMA).

In 2023, he was selected as the Winner of Medicolegal Expert of the Year UK in the Lawyer Monthly Expert Witness Awards. His reputation as a leading Expert Witness in the area of clinical negligence was further recognised by inclusion in the Corporate INTL Who’s Who Adviser Handbook 2024.
